Frank grew up on the island of O`ahu and followed his father and grandfather in the craft of building. After many years as a carpenter/general contractor on the Big Island, he feels fortunate to now focus on nourishing his body and mind as a mandala artist and yoga instructor, in Puako.
Puako, the sleepy coastal community stretched along the Kohala coast has been his sanctuary. Off the beaten path and alive with the lapping of the ocean and trade winds rustling through the palm trees. The vibration of the ocean and peacefulness of the surroundings makes it fertile ground for creativity.
Frank's first mandala came to him in a dream and spiraled out the radial balance and strong lines reminiscent in Celtic art forms. Wood and paint were readily available in his Kawaihae warehouse and, guided by spirit, he started laying out and painting geometric shapes. He loves seeing visions come to live through paint strokes.
“After one lifetime of building homes, enhancing people’s physical environment, I find myself beginning an exciting new phase of mandala construction to benefit people’s spirits. Building and creating primal patterns with wood and acrylic color is taking me on my own spiritual journey of self discovery- a journey towards wholeness and integration of all aspects of my life experiences. My mandalas are symbols of an integration of mind, body, and spirit.”
- Frank
To Frank, the circle of the mandala represents the soul and the part in us that continues beyond space and time- infinite possibilities. He hopes his art stirs the spirit and soothes the soul of those who experience it.
Frank has been teaching yoga since 2005. He received his 200 hour yoga instructor certificate from the White Lotus Foundation, in Santa Barbara, and has studied under teachers in Colorado, Italy, Bali, Maui, and on the Big Island.
After many years of meditation and competitive water sports, he was drawn to yoga as a healing practice for the body and soul. Franks’s style of yoga is a joyful weaving of several Hatha yoga styles, infused with Pilates core work and the Aloha Spirit. He welcomes all levels of yoga experience and physical fitness.
He currently teaches multiple classes on the Kohala Coast and provides private classes at his yoga studio in Puako.
